The coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc all across the world and put a 3 month stop on all football activities. But with an improving situation, most of the leagues returned with jam-packed schedules and games. UEFA ruled that once all the clubs are done with their national leagues, the European competitions would take place. Both the Champions League and Europa League were called off in March but are set to return this week. With the Europa League, we try to predict the results for the remaining games.

Copenhagen FC vs Istanbul Besaksehir

Istanbul

The first leg of the Round of 16 tie belonged to Istanbul Besaksehir but just by one goal, which was scored by their star midfielder Edin Visca. The Turkish side are the favourites to win the second leg as they have been in good form since the lockdown. On the other hand, the opposite has been the case with Copenhagen. Since restart, the Danish club haven’t been in the best of form and look toothless.

Shakthar Donetsk vs Vfl Wolfsburg

Shakhtar

The last time both the sides met, Shakhtar gained an impressive win in Germany and have the advantage with the extra away goal. Wolfsburg kept possession for most of the match in the first leg game but scored only once and have been very inconsistent in the Bundesliga. On the other hand, the Ukrainian side have been great since the restart and are expected to come out victorious in the Round of 16 tie.

Manchester United vs LASK

Manchester United

The Manchester club already lead with a score-line of 5-0 and have been rampant since the restart. With a five-goal lead, it will be very difficult for LASK to try to have any authority over Manchester United, especially at Old Trafford. United are sure to qualify to the quarter-finals.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Rangers

Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen won the first leg game with a score-line of 3-1 which took place at Glasgow. The German club overpowered Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side and will be expected to win the second leg as well. Kai Havertz has been in red-hot form and will like to contribute before leaving the club.

FC Basel vs Eintracht Frankfurt

Basel

In the first leg of this Round of 16 tie, Basel cruised past Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0, away in Germany. The Frankfurt side have completely lost all their confidence and have finished 9th in the Bundesliga this season. With all their key men gone last summer, Frankfurt seem ready to go out in the Round of 16 this season in the Europa League.

Wolverhampton vs Olympiakos

Wolves

When Wolves faced Olympiacos in the first leg of the tie in Greece, the side drew in a 1-1 game where Olympiacos were reduced to 10 men. But Wolves have been good since the restart and have got some great results, which has given them a respectable position in the Premier League table. With Jimenez and Traore available, Wolves will be expected to win the second leg, even though Olympiacos have won their league emphatically.

Inter Milan vs Getafe

Internazionale

This game will be a one-off tie against strong Inter Milan and a very weak Getafe side since the restart. Both the sides have had opposite fates since the restart. Getafe seem to have lost the plot since football restarted. On the other hand, Inter have been very good in Serie-A with Lukaku and Sanchez firing goals left, right and centre. The Italian side is expected to blast away Getafe in this Round of 16 one-off tie.

Sevilla vs AS Roma

Sevilla

This game will also be a one-off tie and will be surely one of the most intriguing games in the Europa League this season. Sevilla and Roma both have been great since the restart and have finished in great positions in their respective leagues. Roma have had a different hero in every game who comes up to score, whereas for Sevilla Ocampos has been fantastic this season. This will be a tough game to predict but we predict Sevilla to come out as the winners.

Quarter Final

Manchester United vs Istanbul Besaksahir

Manchester United

The Red Devils are the only side to remain unbeaten in the Premier League since the restart. They have been rampant since Bruno Fernandes’ arrival in January and have lost only one match since then. The Premier League giants will probably be too hot to handle for the Turkish club and United are expected to have an easy win against Istanbul Besakshehir.

Inter Milan vs Bayer Leverkusen

Internazionale

We expect an end to end game with great attack and mediocre defence. It will be a game of which team will outscore the other and as things stand, Inter have more firepower than Bayer Leverkusen. Thus we predict Inter Milan will go through past Leverkusen in a fiercely contested game.

Shakhtar Donetsk vs FC Basel

Shakhtar

The game will be a race of the dark horses of the competition, as the clubs lock horns for a place in the semi-finals. Both the sides have been absolutely rampant in their respective leagues. But Shakhtar Donetsk, due to their experience on the European stage are expected to move to the semi-final stage of the league.

Wolverhampton vs FC Sevilla

Wolves

Wolves against Sevilla will be another game that promises a lot of goals as both sides have great attacking prospects. This game will also have some great one-on-one battles like Ocampos against Conor Coady and Adama Traore against Sergio Reguillon. It will be another case of which side outscores the other and we predict a Wolves win over Sevilla.

Europa League Semi-Final

Wolverhampton vs Manchester United

Manchester United

This English clash in the semi-final will be interesting, as both the sides have  met a few times this season. Looking at their forms, United are expected to win in a hard-fought battle against Wolves. But it will not be a shock if Wolves come out victorious, even though we predict a United win.

Inter Milan vs Shakhtar Donetsk

Internazionale

Inter Milan have played some of the best football in the Serie-A this season and are favourites to win the Europa League. Shakhtar Donetsk have had a great season but will probably fall short against the likes of Inter. The Ukrainian club will find it very difficult against Antonio Conte’s side and will ultimately succumb to their strike-force.

Final

Inter Milan vs Manchester United

Manchester United

A final between Inter Milan and Manchester United has the potential to be the most entertaining game of the tournament. Both the sides have done very well this season and it will be down to the chosen style of play. It will a tough game for both the sides but we predict Manchester United to come out victorious and lift the trophy.
